Don’t do windows? Well, with these
tips about
how to clean windows, you may find that
it’s easier and faster than you expected, and you can once
again enjoy the sparkling light brought in by a freshly cleaned window.
A little Windex or Glass Plus on a paper
towel may be the most common and fastest way to get the job done, but
it certainly isn’t the only way. There are other methods that
may be cheaper and/or more effective.
For a more cost effective glass cleaner,
skip the commercial products, and make a solution of either white
vinegar and water or ammonia and water. White vinegar and ammonia are
both very cheap and are the basic cleaning tools every household should
have on hand.
Mix a few tablespoons of either one in a
bucket of
lukewarm water. Dip a good cleaning sponge into the solution and rub
the windows done in a vertical motion. Dry immediately with a clean,
dry, soft cloth. Your windows will sparkle!
This is a quick and easy method. With a
little extra effort, however, you can learn how to clean windows as
quickly and effectively as professionals. First, buy a good squeegee.
You can find one for around $10 that will last you a long time. Use the
same ammonia solution described above, and get a kitchen sponge with a
white scrubber on one side.
Dip the sponge in the ammonia solution, and
rub it on the surface of the window. Flip the sponge over, and scrub
until you feel nothing remains stuck on the window. Run a clean, dry
cotton cloth (like an old diaper) along the very top of the window to
give the squeegee a clean place to begin.
Pull the squeegee in smooth
downward strokes from top to bottom, drying the squeegee in between
swipes. Finish with the cloth along the border of the window to pick up
any leftover moisture. With a little practice, you’ll become
as efficient as a professional! This is an excellent method for your
fall and spring cleaning.
Knowing how to clean windows several
different ways can be quite useful…and now you know!
