Knowing how to clean your computer is
essential for any computer owner. For those of us with portable
computers, this includes knowing
how to clean a laptop screen.
Laptops, or notebooks as they are sometimes
referred to, are more prone to dirt and disrepair, because they are
constantly on the go. Dust, fingerprints, and oils may build up on the
screen of the laptop. Over time, this will reduce the visibility and
clarity of the monitor.
There are several products available on the
market for cleaning laptop screens and other home appliance monitors
(televisions, and computer monitors, for instance). Perhaps the easiest
fix is to get a canister of monitor cleaning wipes.
You can use these
on all monitors, including your laptop’s screen. They are
available online at dozens of stores, or at your local office supply
store.
The disposable wipes come in a canister,
similar to the
disposable window wipes at the grocery store. You just pull out a wipe,
rub down the screen, and toss it away. Most of these wipes are also the
only safe way to clean touch screens. They are not moist enough to risk
damaging the electronic components, and they are manufactured by
several well-known electronics companies.
If you don’t have the monitor
wipes available, here’s how to clean a laptop screen most
effectively: Obtain a smooth microfiber cloth (not one of the napped
ones used for dusting furniture). Wipe the monitor down in up and down
or back and forth strokes.
Turn to a clean area of the cloth and use
your finger with it to clean the edges of the screen where dust tends
to settle in the crevices. Tilt the monitor, looking for smudges or
finger prints, and gently but firmly rub at them with another clean
area of the cloth. You will have great results with just a little extra
effort.
Definitely avoid any water or common
household cleaners when cleaning your monitor. That’s not how
to clean a laptop screen – it’s how to destroy it!
The ammonia in glass cleaners will scratch the surface, and other
ingredients may do much worse.
